Speed to Blame in Fatal Orlando Crash

Police are investigating a five-vehicle crash that killed one and seriously injured two others. The accident happened at approximately 3 a.m. on Interstate 4 in Orlando on Monday, September 1. One of the people injured was a man who stepped out of his vehicle following the crash and was subsequently hit by a car. Police suspect the accident might have involved street racing.

According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, there were more than 45,000 motor vehicles involved in fatal car accidents in 2012 alone. On average, someone dies in a crash approximately every 12 minutes. For Americans aged 35 years and older, automotive crashes remain the number one cause of death.

Auto accidents may be the result of a number of different factors, but the most common is the simplest — driver error. These mistakes include distracted driving, operating while intoxicated, speeding and fatigued driving. Often, motorists underestimate the complexity of driving and the wide range of hazards that must be negotiated on every road, including turns, changes in traffic patterns and difficult road surfaces. When a driver is compromised by distraction, fatigue or intoxication, these factors become more difficult to navigate. Speed can also make it very difficult to adjust to avoid a crash.

In some cases, an outside factor like inclement weather or poor road conditions may be the cause of an auto accident. And faulty vehicle parts or improper maintenance can also cause vehicles to lose control, leading to a serious crash.

If you have been injured in an automobile accident in Orlando or the surrounding areas, you may be able to seek compensation from the parties responsible by working with an experienced car accident lawyer at the Law Offices of Salazar & Kelly.
