Two Women Killed in Wrong-Way Accident

A man was driving the wrong way on State Route 436 on Saturday, February 28, and it eventually led to a head-on accident that caused the deaths of two women. According to police reports, a 64-year-old Winter Park resident was going south in the northbound section of the highway around 2:25 a.m. when he drove his Lexus convertible head-on into a Nissan Altima driven by a 39-year-old woman from Fern Park.

The woman was pronounced dead at the site of the accident. Her passenger, a 32-year-old Winter Park resident, was rushed to a local hospital where she was also pronounced dead from her injuries. Meanwhile, the wrong-way driver reportedly suffered some injuries, but they were not life threatening.

Accident investigators conducted blood tests on the driver to see if he was under the influence of alcohol or drugs at the time. His previous record only contains a speeding ticket and a charge of failure to obey a traffic signal.

Although it’s unclear if the man was intoxicated when the crash occurred, driving under the influence is a major factor in many wrong-way car accidents. Consuming large amounts of alcohol before getting behind the wheel can make it difficult to pay attention to signage and other details that indicate to motorists if a street is one way only.

If you have been injured in an auto accident you believe was the fault of another party, you may be able to seek compensation for the damages you’ve suffered. Contact the Orlando car accident attorneys at the Law Offices of Salazar & Kelly for further information and guidance.
