If I’m charged with a crime what is a plea and do I have to go to trial?

Video Transcription:

A plea is when you basically tell the court what position you’re taking. You can plead guilty, not guilty or no contest. A guilty plea, you’re admitting guilt, a not guilty plea, you’re denying your guilt, a no contest plea is basically treated like a guilty plea for purposes of sentencing where you’re not admitting or denying guilt. You do not have to go to trial and most cases do not go to trial. You definitely want to sit down with an attorney, go over the crime that you’re alleged to have committed, go over the evidence that the state could potentially have against you and make the most informed decision for yourself.
