What is the difference between a felony, a misdemeanor, and a citation?

Typically, a felony is a criminal charge for which a person can receive more than a year in state prison or jail. A misdemeanor is as criminal charge for which a person can receive a maximum sentence of up to a year in a county jail. A citation, is typically not a criminal offense in the state of Florida. The person can receive a fine, court cost, or be ordered to take some sort of classes.
