What does it mean to establish paternity?

Video Transcription:

What establishing paternity means, is in Florida when a mother is married and gives birth, the husband of that person is automatically assumed to be the child’s father. However, when an unmarried person gives birth in Florida, paternity can either be established through voluntary means or through a court order. If a name is added to a birth certificate, it doesn’t legally establish paternity. However, that fact can be used in a paternity action. Paternity must be found through filing of a paternity action in court and they must be an order of paternity. Consider Salazar & Kelly Law Group for your paternity action.
