Sex offenses apply to a range of charges
The court system classifies a wide range of charges as sexual offenses. Sexual offense crimes may involve the following types of crimes:
A conviction for any of these crimes can lead to being designated a sex offender, which requires registration and carries significant lifetime penalties.
Offenders have strict registration requirements
If you are convicted for any sex crime, you must comply with Florida’s registration laws for the rest of your life. They can be intrusive, but failure to meet the following requirements can lead to jail time and other penalties:
- Report to a local sheriff’s office — You must report to your local sheriff’s office and provide your identifying information, contact information, employer’s address and email addresses.
- Have your name listed in an online sex offender registry — Florida lists all sex offenders in an online registry database that displays their pictures and addresses, allowing neighbors and co-workers to see the information.
- Reregister every time you move — Every time you relocate for more than five days, you must inform a local sheriff and reregister your address and personal information.
